Project Overview

The design of this residence draws inspiration from the horizon—an ever-present boundary that appears static yet is in constant flux. This illusion of permanence and movement sets the tone for a home that is both structured and fluid, balancing stillness with transformation. Designed by Saurabh Singla, and Palak Singla, Co-founders and principal designers at Design i.O, the 9,000 sq ft residence is a dialogue of contrasts—serene yet bold, eclectic yet minimal—where design does not exist as a fixed entity but as an evolving experience shaped by its inhabitants.

Crafted for a young couple who cherish both hosting and a quiet retreat, the home manifests seamless adaptability. This vision informed the design of dynamic spaces—colossal in scale yet intimate in experience. A meticulously curated palette, reinforced through strategic material repetition, weaves a sense of continuity throughout the home, while nuanced variations lend each space its own distinct character and unique expression.

“A home should never be static; it should breathe, transform, and adapt just as its inhabitants do,” asserts Palak Singla, principal architect and co-founder of Design i.O. The foyer, a study in sculptural contrasts, sets the tone for the home’s dynamic interplay of form, materiality, and colour. Anchored by a bold, arched red console, the space evokes a sense of rhythm and movement, while the organic curvature of the monochrome seating introduces a tactile softness. A fluid black accent table and an amorphous crimson rug punctuate the composition, reinforcing the curated tension between structure and spontaneity.

The formal living area blends relaxed elegance with artistic whimsy. Soft-hued sofas in varying textures form an inviting arrangement, anchored by layered marble and brass tables. A plush rug introduces warmth, while the playful reinterpretation of the Mona Lisa adds a contemporary narrative. Moving onto the informal living space, it exudes grace through its interplay of form, texture, and light. A sculptural sofa anchors the room, complemented by tactile armchairs and a fluid-patterned rug in muted tones with deep blue accents. The black marble table adds depth, while the panelled wooden wall introduces warmth, creating a setting of refined balance and understated luxury.

  • Ascending to the first level, the home unfolds into an enclave of hospitality, with private quarters, a games room, and a pantry—each space thoughtfully curated to welcome and entertain.
  • Embodying the homeowners' flair for hosting, the games room is a vibrant celebration of shared experiences.
  • A bespoke poker and games table anchors the space beneath a sculptural string chandelier. Pac-Man-inspired wall panelling, rendered in a dynamic primary palette of bold blues, reds, yellows, and greens, transforms nostalgia into a visual narrative.
  • Opposite, an avant-garde shelving system—composed of interlocking geometric forms—elevates storage into an interactive design statement.
  • Among the multiple bedrooms, the master suite is a composition of warmth and depth—cinnamon tones meeting ivory in a quiet embrace, while ombre salmon drapes soften the edges.
  • Here, the duality of the homeowners’ tastes was celebrated through intentional layering, ensuring that contrasts became complementary rather than conflicting.

Beyond mere ascent, the journey to the second floor culminates in Canyon Conversations, a semi-covered lounge and terrace where design unfolds as storytelling. Here, fluid contours ripple across the ceiling, walls, and floor, dissolving conventional boundaries to shape seating alcoves, a bespoke bar, and sculptural light fixtures. Three circular skylights cast shifting patterns across the space. Planters emerge organically from the sinuous forms, seamlessly weaving greenery into the spatial narrative, while an undulating wave wall carves out an intimate alcove for quiet conversations. Underfoot, the bespoke Roschcrete terrazzo flooring, linearly inlaid with Lakha Red Granite along the complementing contours, echoing the rich hues of custom bar stools by Nama Home. Meanwhile, elegantly curved bottle shelves transform storage into a statement of artistry.

From the lounge, the transition into the spa retreat is almost imperceptible, yet the shift in atmosphere is profound. A realm of stillness and introspection, the space is cocooned in an earthy material palette of micro-topping, lime-wash texture, teak wood and clay cladding. At its core, a built-in jacuzzi sits beneath a circular skylight, where natural light filters in like a celestial spotlight. In stark yet intentional contrast to the social vibrancy of the home, this space offers a meditative escape.

Challenges arose in ensuring Vastu compliance without compromising the expressive colour palette. Rather than impose restrictions, the designers orchestrated a harmonious composition where each zone’s palette aligned with energy principles while remaining deeply personal to the homeowners.

This residence is not merely a dwelling—it is a living, breathing entity that responds, transforms, and evolves. Every threshold crossed, every hallway traversed, every changing shadow narrates a story of stillness and movement, where contrast is not a division but a celebration. For the homeowners, this is a sanctuary where vibrant gatherings unfold effortlessly one evening, while the next offers solitude in the gentle embrace of carefully curated spaces.
